The Main Event

When: We will be getting married the afternoon of Sunday, October 14, 2012. The ceremony begins at 3:30 pm, followed immediately by a cocktail reception.

Where: As we met in Washington, DC and have both spent over a decade here, it was very important for us to get married in the Nation’s Capital. We want to share the city that we love with the people that we love.

The ceremony and cocktail reception will be held at the Phoenix Park Hotel, by Union Station in Washington, DC. Harry Wardman and Thomas P. Bones constructed the building.  It opened in 1922 as the Commodore, a working-class hotel that was convenient for travelers coming in from the recently opened Union Station. This location is convenient for all forms of transportation.

The Phoenix Park came to our attention thanks to the Historic Hotels of America program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Historic Hotels of America identifies quality hotels that have faithfully maintained their historic integrity, architecture and ambiance, and preserves the authenticity of America’s most prominent lodging addresses.

A room block with a special rate of $99 ($129 triple; $159 quad) is being held until September 27. You may reserve online or call the hotel toll-free at 800-824-5419 (local residents and international callers may call 202-638-6900). When calling, let the reservation agent know you are with the Debelack/Poe wedding or reference group code 16390.

For the Kids: Kids are absolutely welcome guests! If they don’t find the party to their liking, we plan to have one area of the reception space set aside for kids to call their own. There will be a sitter there as well if the kids want to hang out while you mingle. If there are any games or activities your young ones love, let us know in the comments.

After Party: Want to continue the party? We plan to head to The Passenger for our weekly tradition of Sunday “brunch” following the reception. It is our favorite watering hole, and their brunch runs until 11pm. Sorry, kids, this is an adult-only affair. Think you might be interested in joining us there? Let us know in the comments!
